Occupational Therapists are Regulated

When looking for an occupational therapist, it is important to check that they are registered and licensed with the Nova Scotia Occupational Therapy Regulator.  

Only individuals who are registered and licensed with the Nova Scotia Occupational Therapy Regulator may use the title Occupational Therapist or OT. The Regulator maintains a code of ethics, practice standards, and guidelines that registrants must follow when practising occupational therapy in Nova Scotia. These standards are in place to ensure protection to the public through regulation. 

A license issued by the Regulator indicates that the individual:

• Has met the education and registration requirements.
• Demonstrates continued adherence to the practice standards.
• Respects the public’s right to safe, competent, and ethical care.
• Participates in the Continuing Competency Program.
• Is subject to investigation when the Regulator receives a complaint about their practice.
