Annual Renewal Applications

Occupational therapists must apply to renew their licence with the NSOTR each year. NSOTR’s licensing year runs from June 1 to May 31 each year. All licenses expire on May 31 annually.

Renewal applications are completed entirely through the NSOTR’s online portal. NSOTR accepts renewal applications between April 1 and May 31. However, any renewal applications completed after May 15 are subject to a $100 late renewal fee. Registrants may also choose to surrender their licence if they do not plan to practice occupational therapy after May 31.

All registrants must either renew or surrender their licence each year before it expires. If a registrant does not renew or surrender their licence by May 31, 2025:

Important Dates:

April 1, 2025: Renewal will be available to all applicants through the online portal.

May 15, 2025: Deadline to submit a completed renewal request. Registrants who do not submit their renewal request or surrender their licence by this time must pay a late renewal fee of $100.

May 31, 2025: End of licensing year and deadline for registrants to renew or inform the Regulator of their intent to surrender their licence.

Renewal Process:

Completing the renewal process requires time and attention. As a part of the renewal process, you will complete the following steps in order:

  1. Update your contact, professional, and employment information;
  2. Enter your Continuing Competency Learning Activities for the current year and complete a learning reflection;
  3. Complete a self-assessment form based on the Competencies for Occupational Therapists;
  4. Create and enter new Learning Goals for the coming year;
  5. Answer a series of declaration questions; and
  6. Pay your registration fee(s).

Registrants may be required to complete other requirements including a vulnerable sector check or an E-learning module before they can renew their licence. (Registrants will be notified if this applies to them).

It is important to make time to complete these forms carefully and mindfully, since they form an important part of your responsibilities as a regulated professional.

You do not need to complete all steps of the renewal process at once. You can save your work to come back to later. However, please ensure that you save your work before leaving any page or form so you do not lose information you have entered.

We recommend using a computer for renewal if possible, instead of a mobile device or tablet. A larger screen can make it easier to navigate between sections of the online portal and type your responses.

Notice Concerning Membership in the NSSOT:

Effective March 31, 2025, under the Regulated Health Professions Act, membership in the NSSOT is no longer a requirement for registration or licensure with the NSOTR.
