COVID-19 Screening Update

For occupational therapists working in private practice that are required to follow our Reopening Directive, COTNS requires the following question be added to the prescribed client screening process:  “Are you required for any reason to be self-isolating?”

November 30, 2020:

Nova Scotia Public Health continues to provide updated lists for potential COVID-19 exposures. Exposure reports can be found at http://www.nshealth.ca/covid19-news, and a list organized by location at https://novascotia.ca/coronavirus/alerts-notices/#possible-exposures

Some updates request that a person who worked at or visited certain identified sites immediately self-isolate and arrange for a test with 811.

For occupational therapists working in private practice that are required to follow our Reopening Directive, COTNS requires the following question be added to the prescribed client screening process:

“Are you required for any reason to be self-isolating?”

If yes, please go home and self-isolate as you were directed.

Reopening with COVID-19

The Government of Nova Scotia announced that self-regulated health professions, whose practice was restricted under the order of the Chief Medical Officer of Health (March 23, 2020), a date to resume non-urgent/elective practice.

Private practice occupational therapists may resume non-urgent/elective services on June 5, 2020, if they meet specific, approved requirements outlined by the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia.

These requirements are indicated in our approved plan created in collaboration with other health regulators and health associations. All requirements in this plan must be completed before reopening. The plan also contains a checklist for use for occupational therapists to ensure compliance with the reopening plan.
