The work of the Regulator is supported by volunteer committees of occupational therapists and public representatives. Committees play an essential role in the regulation of occupational therapy. Serving on a committee of the Regulator is a valuable way to contribute to the development of the profession and the protection of the public. The time commitment varies depending on the committee and the matters that committee is considering. Committee members receive an honorarium and reimbursement for expenses related to their service.
There are positions for both Occupational Therapists and public members on Committees. Individuals who are interested in serving on a Committee are invited to contact the Registrar.
The Registration and Licensing Committee reviews applications for registration and licensure, re-licensure, or renewal of a licence which have been referred by the Registrar. This committee also develops and reviews registration policies and procedures as directed by the Board.
The Registration and Licensing Review Committee reviews decisions made by a registration and licensing decision-maker upon the written request of an applicant or registrant. A decision of this committee is final.
The Complaints Committee receives, investigates, and reviews complaints against Occupational Therapists who are past or present registrants of the Regulator. This committee may dismiss, resolve, or refer a complaint to another committee if appropriate.
The Professional Conduct Committee conducts hearings into matters referred by the Complaints Committee. This committee determines:
The Fitness-to-Practise Committee reviews concerns, complaints, or reports regarding a registrant's incapacity.
The Reinstatement Committee reviews applications for reinstatement of registration or licensure following the revocation of a registrant's licence or a registrant's resignation as a result of a complaint.
The Practice Review Committee conducts reviews of the practice of registrants when the Regulator believes that it is in the public interest to confirm that a registrant is practicing Occupational Therapy safely, ethically, and competently in all areas of their practice.
The Continuing Competency Committee is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the Continuing Competency Program.
The Professional Practice Committee develops and maintains the Standards of Practice that occupational therapists are expected to meet. The Practice Committee also explores, debates, and provides recommendations to the Board of the Regulator on practice issues.
The Nominations Committee is appointed to oversee the appointment and selection of Members and Officers of the Board of the Regulator.
